We’re thrilled to announce Viola Spolin has been honored with a “bookmark” in the Chicago Gallery of the American Writers Museum, among literary heroes of the city including Ida B. Wells, Saul Bellow, Jane Addams, Lorraine Hansberry, Nelson Algren, and Studs Terkel.

On February 10, American Writers Museum celebrated Viola Spolin’s inclusion in the Chicago Gallery and the release of The Second City’s 60th anniversary coffee table book in spectacular style.

Many members of the Sills family were in attendance, including Carol Sills, editor of many of Viola Spolin’s books, and her daughters, Viola’s granddaughter’s Rachel, Neva and Aretha Sills, who spoke on behalf of the family.

Please visit Viola’s bookmark next time you’re in town!

Thank you, American Writers Museum, The Second City, and to Jeffrey Sweet, author of Something Wonderful Right Away: An Oral History of The Compass Players and Second City for launching the petition to include Viola!

Thanks to Mark Larson and Rachel Sills for the photos of the event below.
